True love is delicate
— even fragile
It must be handled with care
If we don’t see how tender
an open heart is
we cannot see what
true love is
Some try to rush it along
and trample it
with urgency
They try to force it to bloom
before its time
not aware of how love is formed
It doesn’t come ready-made
It starts like two rose seeds
growing side by side
to become two
beautiful roses
on one rose bush
Only after time
and patience
and soft nurturing
can the love grow
The roots need to go down deep
forming a safe place
to blossom
True love is delicate
and must be treated so
Handle it with care
Know its value
and know that it can be broken
It takes a lot of consideration
kindness, care and attention
for love to not only survive,
but thrive
So next time love comes your way
remember this…
Take your time
Love is slow
It’s not in a rush
It doesn’t like deadlines,
ultimatums,
judgements or pressure
Rather, it has its own flow
Love stops flowing when obstacles
stand in its way
If the rocks are too big
or too harsh
love will find a different way
because love can’t stop
or end
It just waits and moves on again
when the environment is more
suitable to its nature
Love never gives up and
love never fails
It is patient and kind
It does not envy
It does not boast
It is not proud
It is not rude
It is not self-seeking
It is not easily angered
It keeps no record of wrongs
Love does not delight in evil
but rejoices with the truth
It always protects
always trusts
always hopes
always perseveres
Love never fails.
Thank you for reading!
The last few lines of my poem are taken directly from the scriptures.
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”
